Diamond Orb Lasing

 

Diamond laser cutting provides a level of precision that is not found in traditional cutting approaches. At dti EXACT™, we are highly experienced with diamond laser cutting and have successfully completed several projects using it as a primary cutting process. The project highlighted below is just one instance where our diamond laser cutting capability provided a perfect solution for our customers.

We were contracted by a Boston based semiconductor customer to use our cutting abilities to divide a perfectly round diamond orb into eight identical pieces. Successfully completing such a task requires lasers with multi axis positioning capabilities paired with the deep understanding of how to set the parameters of the laser beam delivery, so as to cut and not destroy, the target material; in this case an exotic diamond sphere. Our diamond laser cutting approach, with submicron positioning and repeatability, provided exactly that.

In one week we engineered, tooled, cut, and polished the eight diamond pieces cut from the customer’s sphere. This processing tasked the full capabilities of our laser system. After full inspection, including laser interferometry analysis, the parts met all customer requirements.
